IWRM Planning in Densu basin

The project applies participatory and collaborative modelling approaches to strengthen basin-level water planning and decision-making in the Densu Basin, Ghana

Water security in the Densu Basin depends on the ability of institutions and stakeholders to plan and manage shared water resources jointly, transparently, and on the basis of sound evidence. This project supports the strengthening of basin-level water planning through the application of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) principles and collaborative modelling, connecting technical expertise with the knowledge and priorities of local stakeholders.

The project contributed to strengthening evidence-based, inclusive basin planning by:

• Supporting the review of the Densu Basin Integrated Water Resources Plan and the improvement of basin planning tools and frameworks through participatory and collaborative modelling approaches.
• Preparing and delivering technical training to strengthen institutional and stakeholder modelling capacity.
• Supporting stakeholder engagement processes to ensure inclusive, transparent, and evidence-based basin planning.
• Contributing to the development of a water balance model and decision-support tools for the Densu Basin.
