Value of nature insurance: assessment and demonstration
About the project:
NAIAD aims to operationalise “Natural Assurance Schemes”, defined as a range of schemes to internalise the insurance value of river systems.
The NAIAD project aims to operationalise the insurance value of ecosystems for water-related risk mitigation by developing and testing concepts, tools and applications in 9 demonstration sites across Europe under the common concept of Nature Based Solutions (NBS).
NAIAD contributed to providing a robust framework for assessing insurance value for ecosystem services by:
- Enabling full operationalisation through improved understanding of ecosystem functionality and its insurance value at a broad range of scales in both urban and rural context.
- Making explicit the links between ecosystem values and social risk perception.
- The application of developed methods and tools in water management by relevant stakeholders, especially businesses, public authorities and utilities.
